Things to know before booking a Sports Massage

There are numerous benefits to a sports massage; improved circulation and flexibility, reduced risk of injury, pain reduction, just to name a few. But there are a few things to consider when selecting your particular massage choice.

Here at HTC,  we offer sports massage and classic massage.

Classic massage:

Aims to enhance circulation improvements and the use of heat to ease stress and discomfort.

Sports massage:

Is targeted therapeutic treatment for the unique physical and biomechanical needs of the patient.

If done correctly be prepared to be moved around, interact physically and you may even get ‘Movement homework’ advised.

This type of massage often targets deep tissues and can therefore be quite uncomfortable.

Pain, however, does not always equal gain!

Massage does not have to hurt to be beneficial, work with your therapist to establish an agreed discomfort level that you are prepared to work to. Don’t hesitate to communicate with your therapist, it’s your body, your session, your outcome.

Diagnosis?

If you are dealing with an injury or dysfunction and have not received a diagnosis or at least a clinical impression then you should book in with a qualified clinician such as a Physiotherapist, Doctor, or Osteopath. Massage therapists do not diagnose, they can treat symptoms and alleviate them.

Soreness?

It’s completely normal to feel a bit tender and sore post a sports massage, within 48 hours the Soreness/tightness should dissipate fully.
