Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage (RLD)
“You might never have heard of it, but lymphatic health is tipped to be the next frontier in wellness as we all look for ways to reduce inflammation and super-charge our immunity”. From an article in The Telegraph from July 2020.
But exactly what does the lymphatic system actually do?
The lymphatic system helps protect us from infection and disease. It is part of the body’s immune system. It acts as a one-way drainage system – this means it moves fluid from body tissues into the blood circulation; it contains white blood cells called lymphocytes, which fight infection and it gets rid of any waste that cells make.
How can we help our lymph system to function better?
Deep breathing exercises, yoga/Pilates type classes and dry skin brushing are all techniques to help lymph to get moving out the body and expelled. Reflexology is also crucial to help the lymph system to work efficiently.
“Unlike the circulatory system, there is no pump (the heart) to move along the lymph in our bodies, resulting in excess fluid and swelling in the body” describes Juliette “and in addition, the body ends us with lots of waste materials not being removed, this will inevitably put the immune system under additional stress.”
Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage (RLD) is an award-winning reflexology technique which focuses on stimulating the lymphatic reflexes on the feet. The aim is to cause an effect on the sluggish lymphatic system in the body. Research has shown how RLD has a massive impact in reducing swelling and discomfort for Lymphoedema patients. It has also shown to help autoimmune conditions including (fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, MS, type 1 diabetes etc) as well as migraines, sinus problems, arthritis and numerous other conditions. Juliette is currently working with a client who is experiencing post-viral fatigue from Covid-19 and getting some great results. There will be a huge demand for complementary treatments such as RLD to help the nation to recover from the lasting effects of this pandemic.
As well as using RLD for maintaining general health, autoimmune conditions, allergies and pregnancy-related issues like oedema. It is an excellent preventative measure for clients in good health, as well as a powerful method of supporting clients with various health issues (physical, mental or emotional).
